But, the reality is that for every successful person that makes money online, there are thousands of unsuccessful people that didn’t make it.
Whether is timing, a lack of dedication, focus, money (resources), topic, etc., starting something online and sticking to it for a long time (more than a few years) is something that quite frankly, many people don’t want to do.
In this article, I’m going to cover 6 popular ways to make money online, even if you don’t have your own website.
Quick Note: These are easy and simple ways to make money online, the results are NOT guaranteed, but if you want to make money fast, you need to find the best passive income opportunities to you can work on multiple potential passive income streams at the same time.
Let’s dive in.
1. Affiliate marketing
For those of you who may not be familiar with the term “Affiliate programs”, basically is promoting products and services offered by companies in exchange for a small commission.
In other words, affiliate networks are the middlemen connecting bloggers (publishers) with companies (merchants) offering affiliate program opportunities for their products or services.
The good news is that there are dozens of networks (websites) that serve as a marketplace bringing together companies and advertisers like yourself, where you can pick from thousands of products and services to promote for virtually any industry or topic.
How does affiliate marketing work?
In simple terms, you find products or services that you like, you promote it on your blog or social media accounts, and if someone makes a purchase through a special link you get from the merchant, you earn a small commission.
Some affiliate programs are reoccurring, which means that you can potentially earn money month after month from the same program you promoted and someone made a purchase.
NOTE: Check out Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income, where he documents how he makes money online through different methods, including affiliate marketing.

2. Freelance jobs
The internet has made it super easy to find freelance jobs on just about any topic you can think of.
Freelancing as a few to supplement or replace the main income has been gaining traction in the past few years. In fact, statistically speaking, 38% of independent workers identify themselves as freelancers. (source: https://websitebuilder.org/freelance-statistics/)
Some of the freelancing work you can do is graphics design, copywriting, programming, tutoring, video editing, build websites, create presentations for companies, etc.
Although there are a lot of websites to find freelance jobs, the most popular are Upwork, Fiverr, FlexJobs, Guru.com, and Freelancer.com.
3. Electronic commerce (e-commerce)
If you have a bunch of old stuff laying around the house that you don’t want anymore, you can sell those items online for a quick profit.
It’s worth noting that not everyone is successful at it, of course, but those that continue to increase their profits constantly.
Some of the obvious choices are to sell on eBay, Amazon, or Etsy. But most recently other marketplaces such as Facebook, OfferUp, and 5Miles have sprung up and are helping average consumers be a part of the e-commernce revolution.
4. Selling websites and domain names
If you’re familiar with how the real estate industry works, then selling websites and domain names is no different.
Just like a properly, you can purchase an already build and profitable website, flip it, and cash in on the profits.
You can also buy domain names for less than $10/yr that you think could be popular in the future, wait on it, and sell it when a good enough offer is made.
buying and selling websites and domain names is becoming an extremely popular area, which still has a lot of room for development.
If you bought a nice, short and relevant domain name a while ago, you can make a small fortune selling it today.
If you don’t believe me, check out these figures, for the top five most expensive domain sales in the last few years:
- Business.com – $7.5 million
- AsSeenOnTv.com – $5.1 million
- Altavista.com – $3.3 million
- Wine.com – $2.9 million
- Autos.com – $2.2 million
Imagine investing $200/yr to buy 20 domain names at $10/each, and 1 of those domain names sells for $5,000 a year later.
This is NOT fiction, is something that happens all the time and there are people that all they do is find good deals like a real estate broker or investor, and flips them.
You can find already running websites and domain names for sale on EmpireFlippers.com and Flippa.com, 2 of my favorite websites to find good deals.
